Image compressor
How to use
Shrink a JPEG, PNG or WebP, or convert it to one of the others, then download the result. The picture stays in this page. Re-encoding strips EXIF and GPS. HEIC isn't supported yet.
How it's made
- JPEG, PNG and WebP are decoded and encoded in the browser. Nothing is uploaded, and there is no extra library.
- Quality is the canvas encoder hint from 1 to 100 (sent as 0.01 to 1). PNG ignores it, so that slider is turned off for PNG.
- The long side stops at 4096 px, including for a larger photo, so the page keeps one working image instead of a full-size copy. Shrinking steps down by halves. A photo over 60 megapixels is refused before it is opened. One over 16 megapixels is kept only when the browser can scale it while opening.
- PNG and WebP keep transparency. JPEG is filled with the background colour, white unless you change it.
- HEIC is not in this version. Export a JPEG, PNG or WebP from the camera roll. An animated WebP keeps its first frame.
